Behind the Scenes: Preparing MITUBACI TOKYO’s New Flagship Store

As mentioned in our previous blog, MITUBACI TOKYO Flagship Store is coming soon in Sangenjaya! Visit here for more information.

With our grand opening just around the corner on July 1st, our team is in the midst of preparing the new store. Watching the space gradually take shape brings the same kind of excitement we feel when crafting a ring by hand—one step at a time, something special is coming to life.

The 4th floor of the Avac Building in Sangenjaya started out as a bare, industrial space—but with carefully chosen furniture and decor, it’s slowly taking on the warmth and character of MITUBACI. Piece by piece, we’ve selected, crafted, and arranged everything by hand. Watching the space come together this way reminds us once again of just how special the process of making things truly is.

I’m Takada, a new craftsperson who joined MITUBACI this year, and in this blog post I’ll be sharing behind-the-scenes look at how our new flagship store is coming together—complete with the thoughtful touches that make MITUBACI so special. Watching our future workspace take shape has been a rare and meaningful experience for me as well.

As we carefully select and arrange the furniture and interior elements, we’re always thinking about what kind of space would feel most comfortable. It’s made me realize once again how much the atmosphere of a place—and the way people feel in it—can be shaped by design choices and how everything is arranged. When the tools and the space feel just right, I find myself becoming more engaged in my work. We're setting up this new space with the hope that it will feel not only welcoming for our customers, but also comfortable and inspiring for those of us who spend each day here.

Modifying the Tools

As part of preparing for the new flagship store, some of the tools used in our workshops and even a few of the fixtures inside the shop were handmade by our own artisans!
For instance, our “texture hammers,” which are used to create patterns on the surface of jewelry, are custom-made by MITUBACI artisans who modify the hammerheads themselves to achieve a finish that simply can’t be replicated with store-bought tools. I had the chance to watch one of our senior artisans create a texture hammer that will be used in the new store—what a fascinating process!

The first one I got to see was the making of the hammer used for our signature “Frost” texture.

The Frost texture has a delicate and charming look, and the hammer used to create it is carefully crafted with fine lines cut into the surface using a jeweler’s saw. While the lines may appear random, balance is actually key—the spacing between each line is meticulously adjusted to ensure the pattern comes out beautifully.

Next, I got to see how the hammer for one of our most popular workshop textures, “Stella,” is made.

Using a grinder—a machine fitted with a rotating whetstone—the tip of the hammer is carefully shaped. Watching the artisan work around the hammer’s distinctive three ridgelines without damaging them, skillfully grinding only the surrounding areas, was incredibly tense and impressive!

Seeing firsthand how much craftsmanship goes into even a single tool was a truly valuable experience for me as a newcomer. Knowing how the tools we use every day are made gives me a deeper appreciation for them—and I’m sure I’ll feel even more connected to them from now on.

We also took the opportunity to update the metal anvil used for stamping jewelry as part of the new store opening. We engraved our logo onto it using a laser engraving machine. It’s a subtle detail, but having the logo there adds a nice touch of uniqueness—I really love how it turned out.

Additionally, the brass plates planned for the handles of the new store’s glass doors were handcrafted by our artisans. They carefully cut the brass, engraved the logo, and polished each piece to perfection. I’m excited to see how these will add a special touch to the entrance of the new flagship store!

There are many more handcrafted details made with care by our artisans throughout the new space. When you visit, be sure to look around and feel free to ask our staff about them!

What we value most is creating a space where the very act of making a ring by hand becomes a cherished memory. We're putting great care into preparing our new store so that it, too, becomes a place filled with that same special feeling.

We look forward to seeing you at our new location!
