Hospitality in English: The Challenge of MITUBACI Craftsmen

Hi, I am MITUBACI.

We regularly share invaluable time with many of our customers through ring making and jewelry selection. Recently, we have been receiving more and more inquiries and visits from foreign residents and tourists in Japan.

It is a great pleasure for us to meet such customers. At the same time, however, it was also true that there were moments when we felt a "language barrier.

I want people to enjoy choosing a ring to their heart's content with peace of mind," "I want to convey the appeal of MITUBACI more," and "I want people to know the excellence of Japanese craftsmanship."

With this in mind, we began an initiative several years ago to have all of our staff learn to serve customers in English.

How did you start responding in English?

The reason why MITUBACI started providing English-language support is simply because of the increase in the number of overseas customers, but also because we began to receive many inquiries in advance from customers who do not speak Japanese, such as "I don't speak Japanese, but can I still participate in the workshop? I have received many inquiries in advance from customers who do not speak Japanese, asking if they can participate in the workshop even though they do not speak Japanese. We have made preparations so that when we receive such inquiries, we can confidently answer, "No problem.

The first step to relieve tension

Welcome" and "Hello" - that's how our story begins.

Customers visiting MITUBACI for the first time are probably more or less nervous. In addition to the anticipation and a little anxiety of making a ring in an unfamiliar place, the worry that they may not be able to communicate in the language can make their nervousness even greater.

That is why we strive to provide hospitality that will lighten the hearts of our customers from the moment they arrive at our restaurant.

We say "Hello!" to our guests from overseas with a bright and cheerful voice and an exquisite smile. Even if the words are not perfect, the feeling of welcoming them will be conveyed in a mysterious way. We start with simple greetings and words, sometimes using gestures, and gradually build up our hearts and minds.

We value the first step so that our clients feel confident that they are in good hands.

Smartphone Apps and "Omotenashi" (Spirit of Hospitality)

Even if the English is not perfect, the desire to communicate can be conveyed in a mysterious way. Nevertheless, we are making various efforts to ensure a stress-free experience for our guests.

For example, in situations where a more specialized explanation is required,Translation AppsWe actively utilize the Not only can we communicate exactly what we want to talk about with each other, but we can also check the screen together with the customer, which leads to greater peace of mind.

For example, the fact that gold and platinum have different melting points, that an oxygen burner is used to weld platinum, and that a license is required to use an oxygen burner may not always be explained using simple English words, so we use a translation application.

All menus are available in English and Japanese

The menu list and order sheets used to determine the jewelry to be made during your visit, as well as the production process, are all available in both English and Japanese.

The menu list, in particular, has been improved so that customers can intuitively understand the prices without words.

If a couple is a Japanese speaker and an English speaker, respectively, please feel free to ask us to use both.

If you live in Japan and one of you is fluent in Japanese, you will inevitably have to translate at stores, etc. We have prepared this information so that you can concentrate on the workshop as much as possible.

*We provide English only instructions on how to use the coffee maker! We will tell you verbally if you understand Japanese!

We want to convey our thoughts

When a customer nods deeply at our explanation or smiles and says, "Thank you!

termis more than just a tool to convey information. It is something that carries a person's cherished culture, thoughts, and stories.

When we receive messages of appreciation from our customers, we realize once again that jewelry is a bridge that transcends borders and connects cultures.

We will continue to sincerely deal with each and every one of our customers without fear of the "language barrier". Although our customer service in English is not yet perfect, all of our staff will serve you wholeheartedly so that you can choose MITUBACI jewelry with peace of mind.

If any of our guests would prefer to speak English, please do not hesitate to contact us.

If you are making a reservation for wedding or engagement rings, please use the checkbox "I would like to be served in English.
